How we verify listings

Updated September 14, 2026

Every company in the directory comes from a state license record. We do not add companies from advertising, business listing sites, or anyone paying us.

Where the records come from

Texas. Mold assessment and mold remediation are licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), which publishes its license holders as public files, updated daily. We load the mold assessment company and mold remediation company files. TDLR’s site asks automated tools not to download those files, so no program of ours fetches them: a person downloads them in a web browser, and we load that copy.

New York. Mold assessment and remediation contractors are licensed by the New York State Department of Labor, which publishes its licensed contractors as open data, updated daily — the same list the Department’s own licensed mold contractors search uses. We load it directly.

Each listing shows the date of the records we read. We keep every copy we have loaded, with a checksum, so any listing can be traced back to the exact record it came from.

What “verified” means

License verified means we found the company’s license in TDLR’s published file, the license was current, and we read it on the date shown. It is not an endorsement, an inspection of anyone’s work, or a guarantee.

Verification out of date means our last check is more than 180 days old. The listing stays visible while we re-check it.

Not verified means we have no confirmation on file. It is never a finding against a company — a business can hold a license we have not matched to its record. You can look up a Texas mold license yourself or a New York mold contractor license.

What we do not check

Who we leave out

Possible duplicates

When two license records share a phone number but not a name, or a name but not an address, we do not merge them automatically. We keep both as they are and hold the pair for a person to review.

When a page appears in search results

A company page is open to search engines only when it has a way to contact the company and at least one license we confirmed in the last 18 months. A city page is open to search engines only when it lists at least three such companies. Pages below that bar still work for anyone who visits them.
